I really like your effect of darkness… It’s so well done… I’m kinda jealous, cause I realize I need to probably redo all my night scene in my own comic…
Now about assumptions… The’re bad when you make the wrong call LOL. Get the call right and you’ll be one step ahead of everybody.
If I’m allowed of being picky, I see you also face the biggest problem of Comic Life… not allowing multi tails for speech bubble!! LOL

The effect isn’t that difficult shooting real Lego. I have a low ambient light and light the places I want to light up a little more (like the faces in these panels), then I shoot with a fast shutterspeed and voila. All in camera. Could be darker though.
Another way I shot dark a dark scene by day (I believe it’s the episode where Venator burns and old lady in the street) is seen in one of the photo’s in the blogpost on workflow.
I believe it’s much more difficult in your comic!
